At long last, now that the number of COVID-19 cases has begun to drop, we are finally looking to the future of reconnecting relationships with our friends and families. For those who are looking into starting a new relationship and want to go on dating again, it's not only COVID-19 you should worry about. But really, it's finding out whether you find the right match that's the toughest by far. Then again, dating someone doesn't have to be complicated if only you take cues from your pet.

A study conducted by OnePoll found that "2 in every 3 American will end their relationship if their pet doesn't approve". The study shows that the majority of pet owners rely on their pet's judgment over their own for their partner. Accordingly, 68% found that the success of a 2nd date is hindered if the interaction between the pet and the potential partner did not result in a good outcome.

It is not surprising that pet owners are to some degree at an advantage over those that don't have a furry pet. Taking cues from a pet's direct and genuine response to a potential partner's behaviors and motives provide pet owners a sense of objectiveness but an unfiltered opinion about a person's character and likeability.

Then again, not every date always passes the sniff test. The same study found that 7 in 10 Americans (69%) reported dating someone their pet disliked either because their pet didn't like their smell to a lack of attention.  But to be fair to the person you're dating, a second date might not be a bad idea. After all, a second date might be the opportune time to better know your partner's character and style.

The majority of participants in the study (68%) trust their pets more than their friends.  Indeed, a pet's trustworthy nature and unique natural intuition to another can be a valued asset. Barking, clawing, and biting are common signals that a potential date might not work out.

On the other hand, if your partner has innate qualities of being friendly, giving, or affectionate - the following clues could provide signs that better align the features you're looking for in a partner.

1. Giving your pet behind-the-ear scratches willingly.
2. Calling your pet feel-good names i.e "You are so adorable!".
3. Giving your pet praises or treats without asking.
4. Walking your pet alongside you.

These are just some examples that pets can help to decide if your date is right for you. Pets are good predictors for finding your future partner. Pets are not only loyal and trustworthy but our best friends that can help match us with the right person.  But when it comes to dating, sometimes you have to kiss some toads before you find your prince.
