Day 3 of National Justice for Animals Week: "Cruelty-Free" App

Posted by Tom Shannon on

Feb 25 - Mar 3 is National Justice for Animals Week. This week the Animal Legal Defense Fund reminds us the importance of protecting the lives of animals from harm. To support their cause, we join them by simply not purchasing products from industries that abuse animals.

Day 3 - Feb 27. For those that have a smartphone, there are apps that you download on your phone to make things easier to search for brands that are "cruelty-free". One such app is:

Cruelty-Free This app available in Android and iOS is published by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program. The app allows you to search for brands labeled as cruelty-free. The app contains over 700 U.S. and Canadian companies that do not test their products on animals. The app's main features are listed below:

• Search or browse brands alphabetically and by product categories
• Scan products to see if they are cruelty-free
• See brand logos and descriptions to match in-store
• Shop using direct links to brand websites
• Create a shopping list of favorite brands
• Browse deals and promotions offered by Leaping Bunny partners
• Continually updated

The app isn't complete by any stretch but the hundreds of brands already included is a good start. The brands included in the app only lists products that have been certified by the Leaping Bunny Program and have the Leaping Bunny logo on the product label below.
Leaping Bunny
For a brand to be considered in the Leaping Bunny program, companies have to be based in the United States or Canada to apply and are not engaged in testing ingredients, formulations or finished products on animals.

The Leaping Bunny program is also voluntary so if a company chose not to apply, their brands will not be included in this list.

Based on my review, this app is definitely worth checking out.
