The Australian Terrier is a breed terrier descendant from Great Britain and developed in Australia in the 19th century. The breed shares lineage with similar terrier breeds like the Cairn Terrier, Skye Terrier, Dandie Dinmont, Yorkshire and Irish Terriers.
The Australian Terrier was originally developed to assist its owner in the rugged Australian Outback to control the vermin and snake populations, guard against intruders and watch over livestock.
Unlike the Australian Heeler with taller stance that allow it to herd cattle, the Australian Terrier has a smaller build that allows it to be versatile, courageous and pugnacious when threatened.
The Australian Terrier has blue and tan colors, similar to those seen in Yorkshires. The breed's double coat makes the breed less prone to shedding and adaptable to any climate.
