2021's Top Dog and Cat Names

Posted by Tom Shannon on

As much as the 2021 COVID pandemic has changed our lives, the millions of animals that enter animal shelters have not significantly changed this year. According to the ASPCA, approximately 6.3 million animals go in animal shelters nationwide every year, and roughly 4 million of those animals are adopted while the remaining 2 million pets are euthanized.

As we close out 2021, we should remember those pets that have left us and think about how adoption can save many lives each year if we all do our part in welcoming these pets to our homes.

Although 2021 seemed like another gloomy year, new pet owners used their life experiences with COVID-19 in 2021 to remember the year that was when life changing events, famous people and modern technologies that impacted our lives remain very much part of our subconscious minds and well-being for years to come.

According to Rover.com names like COVID, Fauci, Pfizer and Zoom have been used by owners as names for their pets. It may sound ludicrous for anyone to name their pet after COVID, but it shows just how much the pandemic changed the way we see the world around us. Good humor or not, we have lived through it.
