Advantix Flea and Tick Control for Dogs 20-55 lbs 6 Month Supply
Advantix
Regular price $92.99
5 Way Repel-and-Kill Pest Protection. K9 Advantix combines imidacloprid and permethrin to repel and kill ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes that may cross your dog's path. Each ingredient begins to affect pests through contact, attacking parasite nerve cells at different sites. When combined, the two compounds overwhelm the parasite's nervous system. This leads to rapid paralysis and death of the parasite. Prevents ticks from attaching; stops biting fleas; repels mosquitoes; treats chewing lice.
No need to reapply after a bath or weekly swimming; K9 Advantix is waterproof. Studies have shown your dog will still be protected after exposure to water—whether your dog has gone for a swim, has been given a bath or has been in the rain. For best results, dogs treated with K9 Advantix should be bathed with a non-detergent shampoo.
Features:
- Kills fleas on dogs within 12 hours
- Kills fleas before they lay eggs
- Kills the flea larvae stage in the dog's surroundings following contact by a treated dog
- Kills reinfesting fleas in 2 hours
I actually bought this for my local animal shelter. It is what they use and also what my veterinarian recommends. I have used it for the last two tick seasons on my small dog who constantly picks up seed ticks so small that we can hardly see them but that cause him to itch horribly. We still see an occasional tick, but it is usually shriveled and falling off. We also use Revolution on our dog for heartworms. This doubles up the flea prevention, but both ticks and heartworms are rampant in this area and we have to do something. Our dog has digestive issues that preclude the oral meds, and he was allergic to the flea/tick collar. The vet said to use Revolution and then two weeks later the K9 advantix. I use the latter only during tick season, but I use the Revolution all year. I would prefer not to use any of these products, but Lyme disease is a real problem here. So far they seem to work.
This works and I use it as maintenance. I also have it subscribe and save for both dog's. This year was a big challenge when the fleas came back. Nothing we were doing worked fully so with the help from my vet, I did it with frontline sersesto, k9 advantage and choice for every other month and for the seresto, constant, this and a few others are the in betweens, aka monthly treatments. We also treated our home, and yard well any place our dog's have been.
I know all pets are different, so different medicine works for different pets. However, we went through so many types of different flea medicine. Probably spent over $300, on each dog probably more to be honest, until I found this. This works better then front line, for our dogs anyways. I want to say thank you for the reviews, because it helped me to decide. So I hope this helps someone else. This is very easy to apply, I will be purchasing this every month. I gave my dogs a bath first and I waited 4-5 hours until I applied it. Only to make sure they were fully dry. For some reason before we found flea medicine, whenever we gave our girls a bath, there fleas would come back 10X worse. But this time, it’s been about 2 weeks maybe more, and we haven’t seen no fleas at all. Thank you!!!!
Bought this for our Australian Shepherd who hikes with me weekly. Dog always had 5 - 10 ticks after the hike. Used this as it is applied externally and that it is supposed to be a repellent too. Same hike, in same areas, no ticks. Found one flea on her foot dancing around like it did not like where it was. Like the external applied prevention as have concern about dog consuming other types.
I am trying to review all products I purchase honestly and without biased opinions that come from customers that write "Bought" reviews. ( people that are reimbursed in some manner for their good reviews)
The Pros:
-Easy to use application. You do not need any scissors to open the applicator, it has a cap that you simply take off, turn it upside down and replace it. once you take it back off again the applicator is opened and ready for use.
-Pleasant smell, what little smell there is to it. I can barely smell it when I applied it to my dog, and I was really trying hard to smell it.
- Easy to apply to your pet. You start at the base of the neck on your pet . Using one hand you part the hairs on your pet to expose the skin underneath and apply a little drop at the skin level. I usually take a gloved finger and rub that little drop into his skin a bit before moving on. however it is not required that you do so. Make sure you don't apply too much that it begins to pool up or run off of the hairs on your pet. Just a drop is all that it needs. Moving down along the spine of your pet continue to repeat the steps I just listed to total 6 or so different application sites down their back with the last one being at the base of your pets tail. IMPORTANT make sure to keep your pet from licking application sites for a time until the product has dried on the skin. It is harmful if ingested.
-Upon completion of the application process you should start to see results within 24 hours. I noticed two different ticks on my dog and decided to leave them to see how long this product took to work. They were alive and attached upon application, I checked again 6 hours after, 12 hours after and they were still alive. I checked the next morning (18 hours after completing the application) and both of the ticks had died, and dried up fully. they literally fell off of my dog when I went to remove them. It left no part of the tick inside of my dogs skin. The came off in tact completely!
The Cons:
-You have to ensure that your pet doesn't ingest the product or it can be harmful.
That's honestly the only bad thing I can see with this product. For the price compared to the other products on the market in competition with this one, I believe that this is the most affordable working product. I have tried frontline and several different flea and tick prevention products out there and I will continue to keep purchasing this one because it works. clear and simple!
IF YOU HAVE AN INFESTATION ALREADY -PLEASE READ!!
---If you have a pet that has a pretty good amount of flea and ticks already on him, I have a suggestion. I have a family member that was in the same boat with his golden lab, and we used the Capstar chewable tablet to kill off the eggs, larvae and adult flea and ticks on him and then followed up with this k-9 advatix flea and tick prevention. You can safely administer one capstar chewable tablet to your pet ( get the right weight based tablet for your needs). You can give your pet 1 tablet each 24 hours, until you notice a difference in the amount of activity in your pets coat. Once you feel like you have "put a dent" in the activity amount, follow up with the K-9 Advantix to continue your pets protection against flea and ticks for the next 30 days. the ingredients in both the capstar tablets and the K-9 Advantix are compatible and will not harm your pet so long as you are only administering 1 tablet based on the weight of your pet every 24 hours and then applying the Advantix. you do not have to wait to apply the Advantix after you administer the tablets. they can be administered simultaneously safely and without any harm to your pet!
